American Health Imaging
Welcome to American Health Imaging Sandy Springs. This website is part of our effort to be informative and accessible for both patients and physicians.
Diagnostic imaging is a highly sophisticated tool to help physicians determine the best course of treatment for their patients. To deliver maximum value for our imaging services, American Health Imaging takes pride in performing two jobs exceptionally well:
- We make the imaging experience comfortable, pleasant, safe and efficient for patients.
- We provide superior service, quality, and support for our patients referring physicians.
We want patients to leave American Health Imaging Sandy Springs MRI with the confidence that their care was top-notch. That’s why we guarantee our performance to all patients and to their physicians. Please feel free to fill out our patient survey card and let us know about your experience at our center.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a magnetic field and radio waves (no radiation) to create an image of many parts of the body, especially the brain, spine, and joints.
American Health Imaging is proud to announce the expansion of sub-specialized diagnostic imaging with the installment of the Siemens MAGNETOM Verio 3T — bring open bore advantages to 3T field strength. As the newest and most feature-rich 3T system available in Atlanta the Megnetom Verio allows applications that were once only possible in the realm of research.
Revolutionary Comfort in an extra-large open bore (70 cm) will accommodate a wide range of patients including the obese (up to 250 kg or 550 lbs) and the elderly. The extra space is also excellent for those who suffer from claustrophobia to feel less discomfort and anxiety and reduce the need for sedation.
Revolutionary Speed with the power of Tim™ (Total imaging matrix) technology, has up to 102 seamlessly integrated matrix coil elements and up to 32 independent radio frequency channels that allow flexible coil combinations to make patient and coil repositioning virtually unnecessary. Patients can be positioned once for multi-station studies—a big benefit for frail or elderly patients.
The Siemens MAGNETOM Aera 1.5T SILENT MRI is one of the world’s most demanded 1.5 MRI systems in its class. It uses cutting-edge applications that accelerate imaging performance that will provide our patients with faster and more comfortable exams. The technology of the Aera 1.5T SILENT MRI has reduced some scan times by 75%. Our radiologists will be able to view the smallest details with incredible clarity. With the Power-class you will be able to do more and see more during your exams.
Is there any risk?
Magnetic Resonance Imaging is very safe. There are no health risks associated with the magnetic field or the radio waves used by the machine. However, some special circumstances limit the use of a magnetic field. It is important for you to tell us if you have any of the following:
• Cardiac pacemaker or artificial heart valve
• Metal plate, pin or other metallic implant
• Intrauterine device, such as Copper-7 IUD
• Insulin pump or other infusion pump
• Aneurysm clips
• Previous gun wound
• Inner ear implant
• Metal fragments in your eye or other parts of your body
• Permanent (tattoo) eyeliner
How should I prepare for the exam?
No special preparation is needed. You can eat normally and take medication as usual, unless your doctor has given you other instructions. You may find it easier to relax if you avoid drinking coffee or other caffeinated beverages prior to your exam.
How long will the exam take?
The length of the exam depends on the type of MRI exam your doctor has ordered. Most exams are completed within 30 to 60 minutes.
How do I get my exam results?
After your exam, the radiologist will review your images and a report will be sent directly to your doctor. Reports are available within 24 hours. Your doctor will discuss the results of the exam with you.
Computed Tomography (CT), widely known as a CAT scan, is medically referred to as simply CT. In its early days of development and use, it was called Computerized Axial Tomography, hence the term CAT. At American Health Imaging, we have the Siemens Emotion 16 slice CT scanner.
CT is generally a relatively quick procedure that uses x-ray beams to create computer-generated image of soft tissue structures, such as tumors and internal organs, and air cavities (sinuses, lungs). It also has advantages in skeletal and neurological imaging. Its radiation doses to the human body are considered minimal due to the speed in which the x-ray is delivered.
The procedure requires you to lie in a horizontal position, either on your back or stomach, and remain comfortably still. A flat, moving table goes through the center of a donut-shaped x-ray machine. X-ray beams from a number of positions are aimed at the area being studied. A special detector measures the amount of absorbed radiation. This data is transformed by a computer into a digital image.
American Health Imaging Sandy Springs MRI also offers Arthrogram, Ultrasound, and X-Ray for a one-stop- shop imaging experience!
As a courtesy to all patients desiring to schedule appointments, we request that you provide a minimum of 24-hour notice for cancellation. Please understand that every appointment time is specifically reserved and custom designed for that patient’s particular medical condition and exam type. To efficiently refill a time-slot and accommodate all patients desiring to schedule, it is crucial we have as much notice of cancellation as possible. Thank you for your cooperation.
