Do I need to fast before a CT scan?

If your CT scan doesn't use contrast dye, you can usually eat and drink normally beforehand. If your scan includes contrast, your doctor will likely ask you not to eat for several hours before the appointment. Always follow the specific instructions your provider gives you.

Will a CT scan hurt or feel uncomfortable?

The CT scan itself is painless. You will lie on a flat table that moves through the CT machine. The machine makes clicking or whirring sounds, but you won't feel anything from the X-rays. If you receive contrast dye through an IV, you may feel a brief warm sensation or notice a metallic taste in your mouth. These feelings pass quickly and are normal.

How long does it take to get CT results?
